KDE-Based Rainfall Event Separation and Characterization

Rainfall event separation is mainly based on the selection of minimum inter-event time (MIET). The traditional approach to determining a suitable MIET for estimating probability density functions often using frequency histograms. However, this cannot avoid arbitrariness and subjectivity in selecting histogram parameters. To overcome above limitations, study proposes kernel estimation (KDE) rainfall characterization at any specific site where exponential distributions are characterizing statistics. Using standardized procedure provided taking into account Poisson Kolmogorov–Smirnov (K-S) statistical tests, optimal pair volume threshold can be determined. Two climatically different cities, Hangzhou Jinan China, applying proposed selected demonstration purposes. results show that MIETs determined 12 h 10 while values 3 mm both Jinan. KDE-based facilitate representation analytical probabilistic models urban drainage/stormwater control facilities.
